On the whole, it should be pointed out that Spanish furniture sales have shown a stimulating
upward trend during 2013 first semester. Sales to most EU countries have increased
significantly, while Spains furniture exports have picked up also in the United States (+20.5%) and in
some Latin American countries, such as Brazil (+87.9%), Mexico (+25.6%) and Colombia
(+81.4), due to the growth of the real estate and hospitality sectors in these countries.
Spains furniture is also highly appreciated in the Middle East, with exports doing well in Saudi
Arabia, Turkey, UAE and Qatar. Remaining in this area, Israel occupies the 21st position with a
growth of +80.1%.
As for Africa, Equatorial Guinea expanded its purchases of Spains furniture by +5.7%, ranking now
17th. Best results have been obtained in Algeria where imports from Spain rose dramatically by
+29.1% moving the country to the 20th position. Sales to Morocco, which ranks 8th, fell slightly by -
7.1% .
The increase of exports to traditional as well as emerging markets reveals how hard Spains
companies are working to compensate the fall of domestic sales by strengthening their presence in
international markets. The ranks of destination markets shows also an encouraging trend toward
the diversification of markets in all the five continents.
