• #11: Illume Impact can quickly identify appropriate comparison groups for quasi-experimental design situations using PPSM on the breadth of student features and characteristics represented by the Civitas Student Insights Engine. Let’s see a quick example of what that might look like for a user of Impact. This is Alma. She is a Director of Institutional Effectiveness at State University. She wants to evaluate the efficacy of the new Writing Center that is open to every student on campus to see if it would be a good initiative to focus attention on trying to involve more first-year students. Her research question is "Do first-year students who take advantage of supplemental instruction services at the Writing Center have higher persistence rates than similar students who don’t?” How could she test this? RCT is way too time and resource intensive. And does she really want to keep students from a resource that does no harm? Alma has a chance to use Illume impact and she heard that it uses PPSM to get rigorous results with institution specific data so decides to give it a try.
