2. Past, Present, and Future
In 2014, TEAM GROUP is celebrating its 36th year.
Such a milestone is both remarkable and admirable.
Initially, the Group started off as a small firm. Its found-ers
were just a group of young professionals back
then. Today, most of the founders have already re-tired,
but their ties to TEAM GROUP remain strong.
They, therefore, have continued to contribute by of-fering
advice to the second batch of the Groups
executives who are now running TEAM GROUP with
same commitment and dedication.
During the past 35 years, TEAM GROUP has
undergone several changes in line with changing
circumstances and emerging opportunities. In the
beginning, it ran its business under the name of TEAM
Consulting Engineering and Management, and had
just a handful of employees. Over time, that small firm
has significantly expanded and finally become known
as TEAM GROUP with nearly 20 firms under its um-brella
and more than 1,500 people. Its services are
now comprehensive and well integrated. Today,
TEAM GROUP provides services to both the govern-ment
and private sectors. As its services cover a wide
range of fields, its business expansion has spread
into many foreign countries especially those in the
ASEAN region.
For 2014, TEAM GROUP has set up TEAM
Consulting International or TEAMi. This new firm is
directly handling TEAM GROUPs overseas consul-tancy
services. Under TEAMi are: TEAM Lao in Lao
PDR, Total Business Solution in Myanmar, and TEAM
(Cambodia) in Cambodia. TEAMi is going to set up
a subsidiary in Vietnam by early 2014 too. With busi-ness
expansions into various countries, TEAM
GROUP has several vacancies in its overseas-based
firms. It, therefore, is calling on its members to con-sider
these new areas as a means of professional
opportunities. By taking these posts, young profes-sionals
will be able to acquire new experiences and
prosper. They wont need to queue up for promotions
behind their seniors. By working overseas, they enjoy
a faster and more interestingly challenging career,
advancement track, plus better pay. TEAM GROUP
is looking for good and capable people to drive its
overseas businesses, as it seeks to establish itself
as a leading player in ASEAN.
2014 and Politically-Induced Crisis
Several people have expressed concerns about
Thailands political crisis and its ramifications. The
latest crisis started last November, and nobody yet
knows how the political situation will turn out. Sev-eral
people are worried that TEAM GROUPs projects
will be delayed or even scrapped as a result. But I
dont share their worry. TEAM GROUP has braved
many crises before. I am convinced that the current
political predicament will not pToEsAeM s eGrRioOuUsP pNroebwlselemttesr 17
Spiritual Leadership:
Success Factor of the Nation
Recently, I was invited by General Boonsang
Niumpradit, Ph.D.former Supreme Commander of
the Royal Thai Armyto join the Human Capacity
Building Foundation on its committee. On 21 March
2014, I attended its committee meeting for the first
time. The Republic of Koreas Canaan Global
Leadership Center was mentioned in the meeting,
and referred to as a Spiritual Leadership Institute.
The Foundation wished to use the Canaan Centers
curriculum as a model for Thailands similar training
courses.
Well-recognized both domestically and
internationally, during its first 50 years the Center was
an ad hoc agricultural training center. Only later did
it transform its activities to provide spiritual leadership
training. Most Koreans know about this Center and
agree that it contributes a large part to the nations
prosperity. Many of Koreans public figures have been
trained by this Center; be it presidents, leaders of
parliament, or public administrators. The private
sector also uses the Centers services.
In just over 50 years of operation, up to 700,000
people have been trained by the Center. The Centers
success in both quality and quantity lies in its easy
but effective philosophy humans were born to work
hard, to service both the intimates and society, and
to sacrifice. To achieve this, changes have to be
made both at individual and national levels. The
changes must start from oneself (Change Me First).
They must be made immediately (Change Now).
Ones habits should be changed first (Change Here).
Small and easy things should be done first (Change
Small Things First and Change Easy Things First).
I was amazed and impressed with their achievements.
With the values of S-Service, Q-Quality, and
T-Teamwork, TEAM GROUP has already achieved a
certain level of success. However, I still wish to learn
more from the Canaan Center and adopt the
knowledge in our organization. Then we can
disseminate it to others so that Thailand can one day
be even more developed and prosperous.
