The Arena Football League (AFL) is the third highest level of indoor American football behind the NFL and Canadian Football League. It was founded in 1987 and features faster paced games played on smaller indoor fields. The AFL has 14 teams split between two conferences with divisions. The regular season runs from March to August with each team playing 18 games over 20 weeks. The AFL championship is called the Arena Bowl, which is hosted by the team with the better regular season record.
