In Europe, early footballs were made out of
animal bladders, more specifically pigs bladders
which were inflated. Later leather coverings were
introduced to allow the balls to keep their shape.
In 1855, the U.S. inventor Charles Goodyear who
had patented vulcanized rubber exhibited a
spherical football, with an exterior of vulcanized
rubber panels, at the Paris Exhibition universelle. The
ball was to prove popular in early forms of football in
the U.S.A.

HOW FOOTBALL STARTED
Football started at the famous Rugby boy's school in England in 1823.
At Princeton University students were playing a game called Ballown.
In both games players used both their feet and fists to advance the ball.
Organized football began in high schools in the early 1860's.
Colleges also started in the late 1860's. They played with 25 players on
each team. But these football games weren't like we know football
today. Rutgers and Princeton played a game they called football but it
was more like soccer. Students at Harvard, 1871, started to combine the
soccer-like game with some rules from rugby.
Different colleges played under different rules until 1876 when the
Intercollegiate Football Association was formed. They made the rules
the same for all colleges and even set up the field size of 140 by 70
yards.

 Portugal
The first organized game of football in Portugal took place
in 1875 in Camacha, Madeira. Organized by the Madeira
born Harry Hinton. The oldest surviving team in Portugal
is Acad辿mica, which was founded in 1876.
 United States
The first association football club in the United States was
the Oneida Football Club of Boston, Massachusetts,
founded in 1862. It is often said that this was the first club
to play association football outside Britain

 FIFA
The need for a single body to oversee the worldwide game
became apparent at the beginning of the 20th century with
the increasing popularity of international fixtures. The
English Football Association had chaired many discussions
on setting up an international body, but was perceived as
making no progress. It fell to seven other European
countries to band together to form this association. FIFA
(F辿d辿ration Internationale de Football Association) was
founded in Paris on 21 May 1904 .
 FIFA Men's World Cup
The first football world cup was played in Uruguay in 1930.
In the first championship match between Argentina and
Uruguay, both teams couldn't decide on a ball so they used
Argentina's ball the first half and Uruguay's in the second.
