Sports combine both physical and intellectual skills in a competitive manner, differing from mere physical activity. Some of the earliest sports were based on gymnastics, wrestling and athletics in ancient Greece. Popular team sports discussed include football/soccer, basketball and volleyball. Risk sports are also mentioned, which involve speed, height and adrenaline in difficult conditions. The document concludes with questions about sports.
2. The sport is any physical activity that
involves a series of rules or standards to
play in a space or area: playing field,
board, court, table, etc.
3. Sports are competitive activities that
combine physical and intellect, not just
one. Obviously, there are certain
activities, which only uses physical, or just
the intellect.
4. Although often the terms sport and
physical activity (fitness) are confused,
not really mean exactly the same. The
difference is the competitive nature of the
first, against just the fact of practicing the
second.
5. The first sports were based on gymnastics,
wrestling, and athletics, created long
before ancient Greece and later these
were organized in a competition that, at
the moment we know as the Olympic
Games.
7. RISK SPORTS
Risk sports are those that represent a real danger by
the difficult or extreme conditions in which are
practiced. To be considered extreme, often involve
speed, height and physical effort, and a lot of
adrenaline. Most of risk sports are carried out
individually and require a high degree of mental
demand. Some examples are: apnea, carving,
longboard, motocross, etc.
8. FOOTBALL (soccer)
It is widely considered the world's most
popular sport, because it is practiced by
about 270 million people. Football is a team
sport, played between two teams of 11
players, and the objective is to place the ball
in the opponent's porter, action called a
goal.
9. BASKETBALL
Basketball is a team sport in which two sets of
five players each try to score points (double
or triple), also called baskets, inserting a ball
into a hoop placed at 3.05 meters above the
ground from which hangs a net. The NBA is
the principal professional basketball league.
10. VOLLEYBALL
Is a sport where two teams face on a flat field separated
by a central net, trying to pass the ball over the net into the
opponent's field. The ball can be touched or driven, but
can not be stopped or held. Each team has 3 touches to
return the ball to the opposite field. Usually the ball is hit
with hands and arms, but also with any other body part.
One of the most unique characteristics is that volleyball
players have to rotate their positions as they score points.
