The heart is a four-chambered muscular organ covered by a double membrane called the pericardium, with the right atrium and right ventricle pumping deoxygenated blood to the lungs via the pulmonary artery and the left atrium and left ventricle pumping oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary vein to the rest of the body. Valves between the atria and ventricles regulate blood flow, with the tricuspid valve between the right atrium and right ventricle and the bicuspid valve between the left atrium and left ventricle.
