Why 90% of organizations will not survive a digital disruption? - Laurence Lo...OpenKnowledge srlShy of the percentage nominated for direct face-to-face interactions. Yammer stood alone as the only channel supporting the informal networks that are more likely to embrace a digital disruption. For this organisation, Yammer was still in its infancy. But if there was ever an argument for escalating Digital disruption is coming to a business near you. Perhaps more quickly for some than others. And perhaps for some it may be more about taking transformational advantage of digital disruption opportunities. Either way the evidence is that over 70% of transformational change efforts will fail. Organisational change guru and Harvard professor John Kotter, suggests it is the invisible immune system represented by an organisation’s informal networks, that are the culprits. In response he offers a “Dual Operating System” model where the formal Hierarchy and processes sits side by side with the informal organisational networks. We have recently had the opportunity to test Kotter’s model and propositions through ‘reality’ mining of digital communication channels. With one case in particular, we were able to compare face-to-face interactions, task timesheet data, Email, Instant Messaging (Lync) and ESN (Yammer) channels. We found that over 90% of electronic interactions were simply reinforcing the formal ‘business as usual’ tasks. Incredibly for one co-located group of 80 staff, over 50% of their email interactions were with people sitting within 6 metres of themselves, just ESN adoption, this is it.

Og naturligvis er præcision, fordybelse og nuanceringer afgørende og bliver det mere og mere, fordi kompleksiteten bliver større, uanset hvilket perspektiv vi adresserer. Og for at kunne navigere i den er det vigtigt, at der er substantielle dimensioner, som vi kan forlade os på, og som gør os stabile og derfor i stand til at navigere agilt og dynamisk.
Og det spændingsfelt kunne jeg skrive længe om. Det må blive en anden gang. Denne gang vil jeg overlade ordet til alle dem, som jeg har haft glæden af at måtte møde, og måttet følge på deres vej i min undervisning, coaching og ledelsesudvikling.
De er om nogen, dem, der fortjener den store anerkendelse og respekt. De har haft modet, viljen og styrken til at begive sig ind i områder, hvor de ellers ikke normalt har haft deres gang. Men de har gjort det. De har udfordret sig selv, de har været med, de har holdt fast og alle er de kommet ud med noget fantastisk, som på ingen måde kan forklares i ord. Derfor skal de også have lov til at komme til orde. Også så andre kan få fornøjelsen af at få konkrete beviser på, at refleksion ikke behøver at være abstrakt, og at den rent faktisk kan bidrage til det, som vores verden er på nippet til at måttet erkende. Gamle måder at arbejde med ledelse, personlig udvikling og ændrede tankegange kræver ændrede måder at navigere på.
Læs ledernes udtalelser om, hvad ledelse og ledelsesfilosofi har af muligheder gemt i sig. Jeg håber, at i alle bliver klogere på, hvad ledelse koblet med filosofi kan og får lyst til at dykke dybere ned i det perspektiv.
