5. How do The Western Media Face and Do in News Quality?
Some
comparative
opinions
1 Seperate the News Page and Editorial Page.
For above three problem my partners have said , we can find solution from Sulzberger¡¯s speech. That is the media
should separate the news page and editorial page so that readers can distinguish the truth and the media¡¯s opinion. In
Taiwan we always tortured by the reports combining with the truth and the subjective opinion which we just don¡¯t
understand where them came from.
2 Reports should base on evidences.
The media usually lose their public reliance cause they reported something without evidances and just guess it. The
result not only make them be accused by the person(s) involved but lose public reliance. The successful news cases
such as water gate in the U.S. and Tanaka case in Japan are based on the firm evidence.
3 the journalist should examine lots of data
and have specific technique to prove it.
As a watch dog for public , the media should face not only the government but the enterprises and non-profit groups.
In the progress , the journalist usually have to read lots of data whose range overstep their profession. The western
media will ask young journalist to understand more professional information such as financial statement even
pharmacy so that they can read those data they want to put in order more smooth. And , of course , they should have
specific background technique to prove those data they get.
