American community colleges provide international students an affordable path to a university degree. They offer two-year associate's degree programs or the option to transfer credits to a four-year bachelor's program. This allows international students to save money on the first two years of their education while adjusting to American culture and improving their English. Community colleges have seen dramatically rising enrollment from both domestic and international students in recent decades. They provide strong academic programs and support for international students to successfully begin their higher education.

The GGP ranges from 1-3 terms depending on a student's English level. Students take specialized courses that fulfill general education requirements and prepare them to enter a degree program. The GGP helps students adapt to university life in the US and provides support throughout the program. Upon successful completion of the GGP, students continue their studies in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at UVM.
