David Amashenebeli was an 11th century Georgian king who strengthened the kingdom's defenses and built many churches and monasteries. He reigned from 1089 to 1125 AD and strengthened fortresses and cities across Georgia against invading Seljuk armies. He was given the name "The Builder" because of his extensive construction of churches, monasteries, and defensive structures during his reign to protect the country. David Amashenebeli is buried at Gelati Monastery, which he founded in 1106.
