Zarnesti is a city in Brasov County, Romania with a population of 25,299. It is located at the foot of the Massif mountains and crossed by the Barsa river. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and Roman soldiers were buried there. Zarnesti is first mentioned in historical documents from 1373. 4. Short istoric
? In what is now the town Zarnesti it seems that
people lived in ancient times. Later, in Roman
times, it seems that here were buried soldiers of
Legio XIII Gemina. The first documentary
reminiscent of Zarnesti from the year of 1373, as
the Zarn. In 1395 the town is mentioned as
"possessio regalis these parts giving". Other
important names who appear after 1437 are:
Zerna, Villa Czern and Zernyest.
