The church leadership of Saint Sabina parish responded to the possible removal of Father Michael Pfleger as pastor. They believe removing Father Pfleger at this time, given the current poor economy, would be devastating to both the parish and the surrounding Auburn Gresham community. While they acknowledge Father Pfleger will not serve as pastor forever, they feel they should be involved in any succession planning for the future leadership of the parish, out of respect for their roles as church leadership. They also note it is Father Pfleger's desire to remain as pastor of Saint Sabina.

St. Peter's Basilica in Rome underwent many changes over centuries of construction. The current basilica was begun in 1506 on the site of the original 4th century church said to be above St. Peter's tomb. 10 architects contributed to its design, most significantly Bramante, Michelangelo, and Maderno. Bramante designed a Greek cross-shaped church with a large central dome. Michelangelo reverted to this design but with a more massive structure. Maderno extended it into a Latin cross with a long nave and added the famous facade.
