My journey as a learner of Spanish Language, Literature and Culture began with the first
visual image I recall observing the rock formations from our Volkswagen van on a trip to San
Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, M辿xico. Even as a child, I discovered that the best way to learn
a language is to live it through each of the five senses.
My parents met as students in the MFA program at the Dallas Theatre Centre, the
Graduate program for Trinity University, and as a child my playground was the theatre, and
Integration of Abilities an innovative method for creative learning developed at the DTC was
ingrained as a part of my essence. My journey of learning continued on the streets of el Baj鱈o
where as a child, I was sent to the market to buy items for the comida we would partake of at my
Aunt Dianes home. Then after three years of Spanish in High School and graduation, I went to
live in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato for four months in order to master fluency in
speaking and listening abilities. My next years were spent in Florida, where I completed an
Associates degree in General Studies at St. Petersburg College where I entered the Honors
program based on my writing in my Composition Course. I then transferred to Florida State
University, where I majored in Spanish. My favorite readings were in the realm of Magical
Realism. M叩rquez descriptions reminded me of the spectacular details of natural beauty similar
to that which I experienced as a child in M辿xico. Another of my favorite landscapes I visited
during college is the art and architecture of Barcelona, Catalunya. I fell in love with Iberian and
Lain American Literatures and Cultures, and this afforded me the ability to excel in these
courses. Even so, since the experience I had as a student in the Spanish Department, I have a
strong desire to create an environment where the students actually experience success in learning
a language as I have done. Integration of the four parts of language listening, speaking, reading
and writing is the strategy for learning.
I have chosen the career of teaching, and the main portion of my experience has been in
the Early Childhood Bilingual Education (Pre K Second Grade). I enjoy teaching at this level
because the students are open to learning in a creative, changing, and artistic environment.
People have the ability and tendency to adapt to this manner of learning at any age. A real
Integration of Abilities using our five senses is the key to learning language. We will train
ourselves to preform language creatively in this model..

I am interested in the PhD program Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures
at the University of Texas because I want to attain the competence to engage in critical
discussions and diverse activities to learn from and about Literatures and Cultures. My
intellectual goal is to create an innovative approach to the academic learning of languages. My
method would include Integration of Abilities, and a solid format of using our five senses to
implement learning. In order for me to be recognized as an expert in the field and achieve
success in research on the methodology, my graduate studies should be completed at the PhD
level in order to ensure that I am considered to be the master of the field of literature and
culture. The program at the University of Texas at Austin will help me synthesize my abilities to
create an engaging system for learning in an innovative, creative environment. I foresee creating
and totally changing the methodology of teaching languages in a very effective way. This
method can adapt curriculums at any level to create a system for worldwide society to become
multi lingual.
