STMU and SET in BSC3i
STMU and SET is included in BSC3i first deliveries and in S12 upgrade
deliveries.
Purpose: In S12, there are two ways to equip ETS2 plug-in units into GTIC
cartridges:
• The default way is to equip four ETS2 plug-in units to both
GTIC cartridges (GTIC cartridges powered by different PDFU-
Bs) and to use both STM-1/OC-3 interfaces (two active and two
standby SETs per STM-1/OC-3 interface) of ETS2 plug-in units.
• The alternative way is to equip eight ETS2 plug-in units to both
GTIC cartridges (GTIC cartridges powered by different PDFU-
Bs) and use only the first one of the STM-1/OC-3 interfaces
(active SET + standby SET) of ETS2 plug-in units.
The optical interface from the front panel of the ETS2 plug-in unit is
cabled through the CPGO at the cabinet top.
One STMU unit (that is, one ETS2 plug-in unit) has four SETs in use in
the default alternative presented above and in the other alternative one
STMU unit (that is, one ETS2 plug-in unit) has two SETs in use.
In optical interface redundancy, only even STMU indexes are used;
either four (by default) or eight (alternative) in both cartridges (GTIC 0
and GTIC 1).
Redundancy: Transmission protection
Type: Functional unit
Plug-in units: ETS2 Exchange Terminal for 2 x STM-1/OC-3
Interfaces: GSW2KB
Control interface from a signalling unit (through GSW2KB)
STM-1/OC-3 (SDH/SONET)
Synchronisation
Optical interface panel
SFP Single-Mode LC Optical Transceiver Modules, SFPS1L
In S12, the new 2048 PCM bit group switch GSW2KB is a prerequisite
for the use of SDH/SONET Exchange Terminal (SET). One ETS2 plug-
in unit forms a STMU functional unit. Depending on configuration, each
STMU consists of two or four SETs. One SET consists of 63 STM-1
(ETSI) / 84 OC-3 (ANSI) ETs.
The SETs, both active and standby, are installed in the GT4C-A
cartridges. The number of SET units with an optical interface
redundancy in S12 first deliveries is from 0 to 32 (16 active and 16
standby; in steps of one active and one standby at a time). All SETs
have a unique index of their own.
The GT4C-A cartridges can contain up to eight ETS2 plug-in units, each
containing two SET functional units.
