Strengths-Based Leadership in College
- 1. & Your College Experience
- 2. Virtually EVERY college graduate will be supervising someone at some point in their career
- 3. A noun that officially means, The person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.
- 4. An influence relationship that is designed to produce real changes. - Clifton and Anderson
- 5. Leaders influence their followers in order to achieve their vision or enact changes. There are three qualities that successful leaders typically possess.
- 7. Leaders have drive, or motivation, to see their visions through to the end.
- 9. Leaders make every attempt to relate to their followers. People will not follow someone (for long) if they feel the leader does not care about them.
- 10. #3 integrity
- 11. Leaders need to lead with integrity and gain the full trust of their followers. Lose the trust of your followers, and you will no longer be a leader.
- 14. Establishing Goals What steps do you need to take to achieve your vision?
- 15. Team Building Create a cohesive team and assign roles based on Strengths.
- 16. Measuring Progress Are you making progress toward your vision?
- 17. Celebrating Celebrate successes along the way as well as once your vision is realized. Team members need to feel appreciated!
- 18. So, what is the lesson? You cannot do everything alone. You only have a few Strengths.
- 19. Build a team filled with people who have the Strengths that you need to in order to achieve your vision.
- 20. Remember you do not need a formal title to be a leader. leaders sometimes need to be followers.
- 21. How does this apply to you, the college student?
- 22. You are developing your leadership skills right now. (okay, maybe not during this presentation, but you get the idea)

- 24. Be Intentional Course Selection Participate in Athletics Internships StudyAbroad Student Organizations Employment
- 25. Choose courses that involve public speaking, building arguments, learning about cultures, and practicing your writing.
- 26. Join an athletic team or work out alone. Either way, you are building confidence and having fun.
- 27. Interning or studying abroad will help you expand your horizons in multiple ways.
- 28. Student Organizations will help you meet new people and work in a team to accomplish goals.
