This document summarizes a study comparing clinical differences between hand phlegmon infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus versus Streptococcus pyogenes. The study retrospectively reviewed records of patients seen at a large tertiary care center for hand phlegmon. It found no significant differences in clinical or laboratory parameters between infections caused by S. aureus versus S. pyogenes. The conclusion is that there are no detectable differences in these infections that would impact treatment decisions.
