STUDENT COMMUNITY A Group of Students for a Better University Life
BOARDS STRUCTURE5 member board Each member has one vote Decisions will have to be unanimous These 5 high ranking members will be burdened with the responsibility of organizing all the student body to volunteer and share their ideas and concerns with the board and then the board will inform the administration and will provide solutions to any problems that might occur.
Student Volunteers 10 to 15 volunteers
How can someone become involved?
A sign up sheet will circulate around the university campus along with an online sign up sheet for a period of 2 weeks (if NYC will allow us to use their current web page as a medium for us to communicate this message.)
After all sign up sheets are collected then volunteers will be appointed to different positions.
In case of overwhelming sign ups interviews will take place to assure that the right person is chosen for the right job. Student Volunteers As we mentioned previously, in order to assure efficiency some standards for candidates will have to be set. These standards include: A high GPADiversity in culture Diversity in Majors Volunteers will need to be proficient in EnglishVolunteers will have to be from every graduating year(freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)
Division of Responsibilities All projects that will be undertaken will need to be lead and spearheaded by a chosen volunteer. Here again volunteers during the sign ups will have to answer some questions that will help us understand their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, providing the board with enough information enabling us to choose the appropriate volunteer for the right position.
FUTURE PROJECTS
Future Projects Student Advising - helping new students chose the right major. Since we will have students of every major this can be very successful because of students hands on approach to the their subjects. The second stage of student advising will be helping and informing graduating students of ways to research for post-graduate studies in universities abroad as well as informing them of the NYC post-graduate programs, for this project to be successful, in its former stage as well as in its latter stage we need to use volunteers efficiently. Future Projects Writing Center - This will be the hub for all students to utilize in order to improve their writing skills in English. All students can come with questions that can be answered, as well as teaching students writing tips that will improve their academic writing skills. The second aspect of the responsibilities of the writing center will be, helping improve students research methods for papers and projects as well as teaching correct referencing.
Future Projects Radio - Since classes begin at 9am and end at 9pm we want to establish 6 2 hour shows. This could become a very successful approach of informing the universitys student body of any news regarding the university itself as well as informing of any of the boards decisions. The radio will create a feeling of community for our school that currently is lacking.
Future Projects Newspaper -Another way to inform and bring students together is the weekly newspaper.
