This paper reports on a user study to gauge user interaction with RSS based mobile electronic updates from a Moodle based virtual learning environment. The mobile reception of such information can be received in three dimensions of context: time, location and activity. With the active participation of fifteen students, the project aims to compare and evaluate the effectiveness of these context dimensions by comparing the level of user engagement initially across one academic term. The mobile updates relate to teaching material, course work feedback, and general announcements from academic staff across the Universitys academic departments. As well as user profiling when interaction with the updates, early investigations show that there exists peak times when users interact with these applications. Initial results indicate that interactions occurred generally during office hours and within the confines of the campus environment, although uses of the activity based application were recorded also in informal locations outside of working hours. The results also show that time based electronic updates are the most popular, engagement wise, when compared to location and activity.

The study examined the effectiveness and acceptability of the instructional materials developed by the faculty of the College of Management and Business Technology (CMBT) of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST). The sample consisted of selected instructional materials developed by the said Department. This included the instructional materials being used by the Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration of the Graduate School. The research employed the descriptive design where eighty-eight respondents were purposively selected. The parameters in the instrument used were the instructional content, procedure, relevance, knowledge and practical applications, clarity, development of higher thinking skills, and alignment with the thrusts and goals and objectives of the University. The following findings were made: the total weighted mean got 3.55 with verbal description of Very Satisfactory indicated that the instructional materials developed by CMBT faculty were acceptable, except for the item friendliness of figures which got a Needs Improvement rating. Recommendations for the enhancement and continuous development of instructional materials were also made.

The study examined the effectiveness and acceptability of the instructional materials developed by the faculty of the College of Management and Business Technology (CMBT) of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST). The sample consisted of selected instructional materials developed by the said Department. This included the instructional materials being used by the Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration of the Graduate School. The research employed the descriptive design where eighty-eight respondents were purposively selected. The parameters in the instrument used were the instructional content, procedure, relevance, knowledge and practical applications, clarity, development of higher thinking skills, and alignment with the thrusts and goals and objectives of the University. The following findings were made: the total weighted mean got 3.55 with verbal description of Very Satisfactory indicated that the instructional materials developed by CMBT faculty were acceptable, except for the item friendliness of figures which got a Needs Improvement rating. Recommendations for the enhancement and continuous development of instructional materials were also made.

Influencing students construction of personalised concept maps through the use of query expansion (QE) searching of the World Wide Web This research relies on the ability of an experienced subject tutor to be able to explicitly relate the definitive keywords within their subject expertise. The current version of the software, developed as part of this research, uses a generalised hierarchical semantic network as a representation of a subject's keywords as chosen by a knowledgeable tutor as well as how that tutor chooses to inter relate them. The type of semantic net chosen is assumed to loosely obey a set of rules. 2. Approach 1. Introduction Despite the on-going development of search engines, users of the World Wide Web, including school and undergraduate students, still find searching for appropriate information problematic. Keener students may seek relevant information to help them to construct a better understanding of the various concepts within a taught subject. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that the information contained in the located documents is of sufficient educational quality; measured for example in terms of the information's usefulness, accuracy, relevancy, trustworthiness, level of language, completeness and status. In this research it is argued that a domain expert (perhaps in the form of a "web literate" subject tutor) has several major advantages over a school or undergraduate student when it comes to searching for relevant subject-related information. Initial Conclusions Students may often be overwhelmed by the number of web-site addresses resulting from the search process and there is no guarantee that the information obtained through this process is accurate or useful in the learning process.
