Re: Use of Personal Electronic Devices
Date: October 14, 2009

Osseo Area Schools, ISD #279, is exploring the use of personal electronic devices owned
by the Student or the Students Parents for the purpose of furthering educational and
professional goals of the Student consistent with the mission of the School District and
school policies.

Your child is a Student currently enrolled in Project Copernicus. To complete this pilot
program, the School District encourages your child to bring personal electronic devices
(e.g., laptops, netbooks) to school and use them to carry out class-related assignments as
directed by School District staff.

We remind you that the School District currently maintains, among others, Policy and
Procedure 524Network/Internet Acceptable Use by Students for the School District
computer system and acceptable and safe use of the Internet, including electronic
communications. This policy and all other school and District policies and procedures
continue to remain in effect.

Use of personal electronic devices in the pilot program will be permitted under the
following requirements:

1. The Student may use a personal electronic device in the school building during school
hours only during the class period of the pilot program.
2. The School District shall not be responsible for the initial cost or additional
maintenance and repair costs of the Students personal electronic device.
3. The Student or the Students Parents shall be solely responsible for any one-time or
periodic subscription, lease, license or other payments associated with the personal
electronic device.
4. The Student is not allowed to load or download any unauthorized software or files
onto a personal electronic device or the School Districts computers and networks.
5. The School District is not responsible for lost, stolen or damage to personal electronic
devices.
6. Violations of School and School District policies shall subject the Student to
discipline according to School and School District policies and procedures, and will
result in the termination of the privilege to use personal electronic devices in the
classroom.

I have read this notice and I understand and agree to its terms.
