Suicide is intentionally killing oneself and may occur due to depression, shame, guilt, desperation, physical or emotional pain, anxiety, financial difficulties or undesirable situations. Views on suicide have been influenced by cultural and religious beliefs around the sanctity of life. Modern medicine views suicide as a mental health issue associated with psychological factors like difficulty coping with depression, suffering, fear or mental disorders. A suicide attempt may be a cry for help rather than a genuine intent to die.
