This document summarizes several sustainability indicators for a developing city, including population growth due to affordable housing, worsening air quality from increased traffic, and decreasing biodiversity as palm oil plantations make way for development. Waste continues to be landfilled and the city's ecological footprint is increased by housing, transportation, and consumption habits. Transportation is dominated by private vehicles, leading to traffic congestion during peak hours. Schools and hospitals provide education and healthcare, while some green spaces like parks offer recreation. Climate change impacts like traffic congestion are unavoidable and food sourcing could be more local. The local economic base includes technology, manufacturing and industry, providing employment.
3. Air quality
traf鍖c continues to increase, and busy junctions, narrow
city streets, and heavy bus and lorry traf鍖c can all create
zones with poor air quality.
Biodiversity
ecological services provided by natural and diverse
habitats help regulate temperature, absorb
pollution, control pests and maintain soil fertility. They also
play a key role in limiting the causes of climate change and
helping cities cope with its impacts by absorbing
carbon, providing natural defences against 鍖oods and
droughts, maintaining water quality, and reducing the heat
island effect. The palm oil plantation in this area is
decreasing due to the rapid development.
4. Waste and recycling
still goes into land鍖ll, requiring long-term management and
creating greenhouse gases such as methane.
Eco footprint (Impact of the development, services,
housing, transport and consumable on the environment)
A citys ecological footprint measures the environmental
impact of its populations lifestyle, consumption habits and
energy use. Housing and food and drink consumption have
the biggest in鍖uence, but transport, pets and consumer
items such as clothing are also important.no improvements
in the energy ef鍖ciency of housing and transport.
Transport
This indicator captures how long it takes to access key
services without using a car. Not many people chooses
cycling or walking as their main transportation. People
chooses to drive around the town and during peak hour,
there will be traffic congestion.
5. Education
Successful cities need a well-skilled population to support their
economy and tackle the big challenges of sustainable development.
Elementary school and high school are available . Even the
international private college available such as the Nottingham
Malaysia Campus.
6. Health and healthcare
steady increase in average life expectancy at birth,
government hospitals and private clinics available nearby
7. Green space
Access to high quality open space in a city is vital for peoples
physical and mental wellbeing. Green spaces also play a key role in
adaptation to climate change: they can help cool the environment
during heat waves, reduce 鍖ood risk by storing and soaking away
excess water, and provide habitats for wildlife. There are a few
places such as Sungai Congkak and Bukit Broga for the city citizens
to chill.
8. Climate
change
Cities that take a long-term view and plan to
reduce emissions and adapt to climate
impacts will be more ef鍖cient and resilient.
These plans also have the potential to
address social and economic problems,
such as fuel poverty and traf鍖c congestion,
and so deliver a better quality of life for
residents. The traffic congestion is
unavoidable especially during peak hour.
9.
Food-locally produced food should be a key
element. This reduces the amount of food
transported over long distances. It also offers a
solution to the phenomenon of food
deserts,neighbourhoods without a supermarket or
mainstream grocer, where the only local choice is
more expensive convenience shopping and
residents often end up with poorer diets.
Economic base- in technology, manufacturing and
design will increase their economic activity.
Industrial area available and more immigrants
working in this industry.
Employment-new supermarket and more shops
open offers more employment.
