- Who we are:The Sydney Volunteer Network (SVN) is free and open to people who are involved in the volunteer sector.
- When two volunteer managers got together to support one another. Then used their networks to start this group.First official meeting was May 2012Initial objectives were:• Talk about what’s happening in the volunteering sector – bigger picture stuff, recent changes, funding, etc• Talk about changing recruitment processes• Share contacts and information• Promote what’s out there• Possibly share volunteers without losing them, through one-off events and opportunitiesOur purpose is to promote volunteering and to enhance the volunteering experience through inter-agency collaboration.

- Each meeting includes a Hot Topic and a Learning and Development topic (or continuous improvement) which are decided at the previous meeting. Examples are how do we survey volunteers, exiting volunteers, corporate volunteers, Fair Work Statement and how it impacts on NFPs,.We exchange information and ideas around volunteering, share best practice and the latest research, identify current issues and challenges, and initiate actions in response.Have

- 62 Volunteer Managers attended
- 39 stallholders and approximately 500 visitors. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from both stallholders and visitors. Over 50% of stallholders and visitors rated the Expo as excellent and approximately 90% of all who attended rated it as excellent or good.95% of visitors reported feeling inspired to volunteer. We were assisted on the day with over 20 volunteers from Optus RockCorps, Nirimba TAFE and Red Cross. Entertainment was provided by schools in the area including one School for Children with disabilitiesPromotion of the Expo was achieved by distributing flyers to medical centres, community centres, the Mt Druitt Hub, Blacktown Council, Westfield Shopping Centre, local shops, job centres and Blacktown Library. a Facebook page was set up for the Sydney Volunteer Network to promote the event.
