2. SYNOPSIS OF MEREM’S ‘THE PREACHER’S
SON’.
He was a promising child, a preacher’s son, a light
set on the hill for the world to see. Then he made a
contact which disrupted his dreams, he was deviated
from his direction which led to disappointment and
heartbreaks.
Through the rigorous moment he brought himself,
he had hope in tomorrow and his hope saw him through.
THE NOVEL
Blessing Ihechimerem Oti’s debut novel is titled “The
Preacher’s Son”.
It is a prose story of 112 pages in eight chapters.
It is published by Perfect Image publishers, Onitsha.
The first print is this year 2012.
CHAPTER SUMMARY
Chapter one is captioned: Days in the light.
This shows the happy and godly home of Pastor
Christine and Mrs. Christine Adibe.
Chapter two: Contact.
3. It shows progress of life and the challenges that
marvelous (the pastor second son) faced when he was
exposed to the evils of the larger society.
Chapter Three: Changes “leaving home in a sense
involves a second birth”
The tension in the book emerged in this chapter
Chapter four: Disappointment
This chapter increased the tension in the novel
Chapter five: Heart break
This is the climax of the book. The father of hero dies!
Chapter six: Resolution
This marks a turning point. The story automatically
reversed from tragedy to comedy.
Chapter seven: New dawn
This chapter brought a big relief from the pain in the
previous chapter.
Chapter eight: Comforted
“Success is sweet and sweeter if long delayed and gotten
through many struggles and defeats. We climb to heaven
most often, on the ruins of our cherished plans, finding
our failures were successes”
As the name suggest, the novel came to a happy ending.

THEMES:
`The themes of this novel could be noticed from the life
and circumstances that surrounds the characters in it.
Some of the themes are:
a. Evil communication corrupts good manners.
b. Single parenting is a trait to the good development of
any child of the society.
c. Career development at the expense of family life is very
dangerous and destructive to children upbringing.
Blessing seems to have told her life story in disguise. But
that is not true. The story is a fiction. It is beautiful
imagination and literal creativity that gave birth to this
work!
