The T. E. A. Paragraph
T = Topic
E = Example(s)
A = Analysis
I picked this essay because I thought it would appeal strongly to
students who are mostly around the same age as the
author. Many students did respond very positively.
What surprised me, though, were the number of students who
felt alienated by her obvious wealth and privilege.
Quite a few commented that they'd never be able to even
dream of going to Yale or having a staff job at The New Yorker.
Others wondered whether the piece would have gone viral had
not the author died so young.
Clearly, the question of audience is a very complex one, and it is
easy to make incorrect assumptions about how a given group of
readers will respond to a piece.
