Identification occurs as teacher are part of multiple practices which challenges their existing assumptions or practices. Teachers identify their own expertise and limitations. It requires of teachers to define if and how practices of different practices relate to each other and what kind of behavior is common in each practice.
Coordination evolves when procedures and rules are created in dialogue across practices in order to effectively cooperate and collaborate. Teachers start to know which colleagues they can ask questions or who they can collaborate with.
Reflection occurs when someone (re)considers their own practice due to taking into account the perspective of other practices. Teachers learn from and with others by making and taking perspective based on differences between practices but also encourages others to reflect and reconsider their practices.
Transformation describes the effect of boundary crossing that leads to changes in practices or creation of new practices. Transformation start with a confrontation as teachers experience a (shared) problem or have a question in their current practice. New knowledge or practices are co-created to be applied in practice.
