The South Bend Department of Innovation & Technology aims to leverage technology, data, and design to empower the city workforce and improve residents' quality of life. The department overhauled the Utility Assistance Program (UAP) to make it more accessible and impactful. Changes included streamlining the application process, increasing eligibility, and integrating the program with other city systems. Outreach efforts ensured community needs were met. The redesigned UAP helped many vulnerable households amid rising utility bills during the pandemic. The department continues developing initiatives focused on civic engagement and government modernization.
