  1. One of the best ways to make sure everyone knows proper procedures, is to an hold effective safety meeting. During this presentation, you will learn the basics of an effective meeting and make sure your employees leave your safety meeting better able to protect your customers and companys property and more importantly, themselves.
  2. Heres just one example of what can happen when our employees do not follow good safety procedures. Some other examples can be lawsuits, injury and even death.
  3. Speakers can be their own worst enemies. Studies show that listeners lose their attention after approximately 18 minutes. Most managers think that the longer they speak, the more important they sound. Nothing could be further from the truth.
  4. This is my list, but I am sure we could spend all day on things we cant stand. So, if there is something I am missing, type it in the chat box and I will bring that up in the end 1 - Don't waste your audience's time and your customers. 2 - Yes, everything we have to say is important. But when it comes to inspiring action, your audience would prefer not to drink from a fire hose. 3 - Speaking in a monotone voice is great for putting people to sleep, but little else. As a Presenter use some vocal variety when you deliver your speech. 4 - Everyone is busy. Meetings and presentations take up valuable time. However, there's no excuse for not giving your audience your best effort every single time, and that means preparing and having notes. Doing a dry run before your presentation is a great way to succeed.
  5. We have all sat through a presentation and said this under our breath. If you begin on time, cover the right information, and are well prepared, you should never hear any of this.
  6. Well, lets take a look at these!
  7. If there is something I missed please type it in the chat box and the end so we can all learn from it.
  8. So have clear communication, state the meeting will begin promptly and then do it. If your meeting starts a little late, you should still finish the meeting at the scheduled time. It's not good to assume everyone's schedule revolves around your meeting, so wrap up the meeting when you promised.
  9. 1. The basics of holding a good meeting has never changed. It all starts with having a clearly stated objective for the meeting in the agenda a meeting without an agenda is a recipe for a waste of time. 2. Rehearse what you want to communicate. How you communicate will make the difference between success and failure.
  10. 1 - Remember that your voice must do the job that punctuation does in your writing. So, try not to speak too fast and never read full sentence notes - it is boring and makes your meeting very difficult to follow. 2 - Make sure you can be seen, as well as heard. Dont hide behind your notes or the projector. It is important that every employee feels you are talking to him or her personally. So look around the room and try to make eye contact with everyone in your audience at least once during the meeting.
  11. What are some examples? Telephones rining, Temperature (to cold or to hot), in my shop there's always an Air Compressor going off right in the middle of something important. There are two types. We can be talking about outside distractions like noise & temp or inside distractions from the audience like, cell phones and people talking to each other. You do need to acknowledge these distractions and either fix it or wait until it stops. For the audience distractions set the rules up front. If employees are talking with each other, ask them if they have a story they would like to share. Another tactic is to continue your presentation but walk over to them and speak from there. This helps get the point across to be quite! 1 - When distractions occur, do not ignore them, incorporate them into your talk. Command everyones attention by acknowledging these situations and allowing people to correct them. Remember you have the rest of the audience on your side wanting the distractions to stop. Do not accept them! You are the presenter!
  12. 1 - All presenters want an engaged, interested, fully attentive audience. For your message to be most effectively received, the audience must hear it. There are many ways to gain and maintain your audiences attention during a presentation, getting them actively involved in the message is the best place to start.
  13. Some of us have a hard time with this. 1 Be real, don't try and be something you are not. Your Audience can smell a fake in a minute. Develop your own presentation style and use it! 2 - Your audience wants you to show them what you are talking about literally. Use handouts to get your message across. Research shows that your audience will remember more when you use visual aids to reinforce your words.

  15. This is what can happen when we do not put a tag line in the tree we are felling.
  16. This is what can happen when you do not secure your load. How would you like to be on the receiving end of this?
  17. Here, a crew was working to remove a tree and ended up using the crane like a knife, slicing the house in half. Warning! This next slide is not for the faint of heart, but it is reality.
  18. What happened here is pretty obvious, Kickback. Visuals are great, because they help drive home the reality of what you are telling them.
  19. The goal of coaching is to guide vision, urge excellence, and empower your employees to be the best they can be. Effective coaching in the workplace delivers achievement, fulfillment and joy from which both you and your employees will benefit. Your safety meetings will help set the table of this.
  20. Remember - A safety meeting is a reflection of you and your work. You want to make the best possible impression in the short amount of time given. Remember your audience will lose interest usually after 18 minutes.
  21. What should your safety meeting look like?
  22. The Tailgate Safety Training manual is an easy method for training your employees. There are 70 topics to choose from and what works great is that you can present a certain topic that the crew faced during the week.
  23. The focus of this topic is to help your team become more knowledgeable in the field. Our customers are always looking to the field personnel for advice or answers to their landscape questions. At this point in your meeting it is a good time to prepare your employees on issues that they might run into in the field. For example: Depending on the time of year, you can have a sample of a dogwood with anthracnose. Again going back to how important visuals are.
  24. Whatever comes up at your office that your team needs reminding of. Daily reminders help guide your team in the direction you have chosen to head in. It is important to pick one topic a week because they have a better chance of remembering it, but stay consistent with your vision.
  25. Branch updates are important because it is a way to let everyone know what direction the company is heading. This is a great way to get everyone pulling the rope in the same direction. This is how you will succeed.
  26. What to review? Emails, Phone calls & Letters Reviewing comments from your customers are a great way to let your employees know that what there doing is either working or not. Dont be afraid to go over both positive and negative comments. Your team will learn from both.

  28. 1 - Employees from different levels can interact and build relationships. Its important to have everyone out there stretching from the top level down. This will build moral. 2 - During the stretching, joking around and laughter is always encouraged. 3 As managers you have the opportunity to address the entire team for a few minutes during exercises to touch base on relevant topics. Like avoid certain roads due to traffic.
  29. 1 - These Signs are an important part of every workplace. A great safety plan always has in place workplace safety signs that remind employees of the need for safety. 2 You will also benefit from these signs only if you stay on top of them. If you do not update them on a regular basis it will have a negative affect on your team.
  30. Good leadership demands good people motivation skills and the use of inspirational techniques. Develop your own tools for motivation and use them. So, Today we covered the dos, donts, components, and topics to include in an effective safety meeting. If you believe you can put on a great safety meeting, you probably can. If you believe you won't, you probably won't. Belief is the first thing that will get your safety meeting off in the right direction. If you follow these steps, I am sure your employees will believe in what you are teaching them. so at the end of the day.. Next slide
