THE ART
OF
EVALUATION
A quick look at how we evaluate things
Evaluation is the key part of
any review. It is all about
judgements and assessments
against certain criteria.
Here, we ask the question of
what we mean by assessments
and what we are doing when
we evaluate.
When we evaluate, we use
information that we have
previously identified as
relevant against our criteria
and we ask true or false
questions about its validity.
Information collation.
This refers to
information gathering
and is usually done
before evaluation
We ask questions around the
fullness of information gathered.
Adequacy - this refers to
coverage and deals with the
question - Is it enough?
Then we ask questions about
consistency of facts and validity.
Here, the issue being
addressed is that of
effectiveness against the given
criteria. We are asking, does
this really work.
We focus on good vs bad. What
risks exist and its mitigation.
Adequacy /
Effectiveness
This asks the
questions - Does it
work? Are we fully
covered
Truth Assessment
This are qualitative
checks or tests
around the truth of
of the facts of a
matter.
