Atoms are the smallest and most basic building blocks that make up all matter in our world. Atoms themselves are composed of even smaller particles, including a nucleus containing protons and neutrons at the center, and electrons that orbit around the nucleus. Everything visible in our daily lives, from the smallest molecules to large objects, are comprised of combinations of these tiny atoms.
