Benefit yard sale
A community yard sale will be held at 6 a.m. at Little Rocket Restaurant in Farmville to benefit the
Children's Miracle Network in honor of Keyon Dixon, who was injured in an automobile accident in
June. Clothes, household goods, toys, books and other items will be sold. The event is sponsored by
Pitt County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church
and the Dixon family. Call Minerva D. Freeman at 258-3522.
Military breakfast
Military retirees will meet at 8 a.m. at Golden Corral. Call Tom Parsons at 355-2815.
Dirty Dash 5K
The Dream Factory of Eastern North Carolina will hold its first Dirty Dash 5K Obstacle Race at Short
Bridge Road in Greenville. Starting times are from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will run, climb and
crawl through 15 obstacles set up along the Bicycle Post's mountain biking trails. Call Jerry Fisher at
567-3154.
Neighborhood symposium
The fourth annual neighborhood symposium, "Imagine! United Neighborhoods!, will be held from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. Registration will be from from 8:15-9 a.m. The
symposium begins at 9 a.m. Community involvement, crime prevention, neighborhood development
and preservation and code enforcement will be discussed.
Dog wash fundraiser
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will hold a Fluff and Puff Dog Wash fundraiser from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. at Sweet Pets. The cost is $15 for large dogs, $10 for small dogs, $5 for nail clippings and
$10 for anal gland expression.
Touch-a-Truck
The American Red Cross and Lowe's will host a Touch-a-Truck and Preparedness event from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. in the Lowe's Home Improvement parking lot in Washington, N.C.
Annual Herb Sale
The Washington Garden Club's annual Herb Sale will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the
N.C. Estuarium, Washington, N.C. Proceeds help the club maintain local gardens at the Brown
Library, the corner of North Market and Third streets and the senior center. Email

Walk for Life
The Carolina Pregnancy Center will
hold its 20th annual Walk for Life
from 4-7 p.m. at the E.B. Middle
School track. The event includes a 2-
mile walk and a family fun night
with live music, a pig pickin, face
painting, games and inflatables.
Purple the Clown will visit and there
will be a bike show by the ProTown

Evening of Jazz
Strive, a job readiness and
attitudinal training program, will hold an Evening of Jazz fundraiser featuring Carroll Dashiell and
Friends from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Hilton Greenville. The event will include heavy hors d'oeuvres and

Carolina Skies Astronomy Club will meet at 7 p.m. at A Time for Science, Grifton, to view the winter
constellations setting and the summer constellations rising. Participants also will view stars, planets
and other celestial objects. The indoor program will demonstrate how spectroscopic techniques are
