Beginnings
The company began as the business venture
of Don Facundo Bacard鱈 Mass坦, who entered
the wine import industry after immigrating to
Santiago de Cuba at 15 years of age.
His foray into rum distillation led to the
establishment of Compania Bacardi, and his
flagship rum began to garner international
recognition.
Modern Techniques
 Don Facundo Bacard鱈
Mass坦s son Facundo
Bacardi took on
responsibilities at his
fathers distillery when he
was 18 years old.
 He drew on modern
distillation techniques to
improve upon his familys
rum formula, eventually
purchasing his own rum-
making facility in

The First Distillery
Valued at 3,500 pesos, the distillery included an
iron still that allowed the brothers to process 35
barrels of molasses each day.
To commemorate the establishment of the first
distillery, Facundo planted a coconut palm
sapling.
Fondly referred to as El Coco, the tree became a
beloved symbol as the Bacardis operations
continued to expand.
