The Evolution Of Hand Dryers
The Evolution Of Hand Dryers
George Clemens created the first hand
dryer back in 1948.
Clemens design stayed pretty much the
same for a long time until 1992. This was
when Mitsubishi came along and introduced
the Jet Hand Dryer.
’
After this Dyson launched the Airblade Dryer
a little later on in 2006.
Unhygienic
Advances
• Removal of an on/off button and
installation of hand-detection sensors
instead.
• Warm bacteria-spreading temperatures of
the air were reduced and made more
confined.
Noisy
Advances
• Hand dryers have got a lot quieter. The
Tekflo Advanced hand dryer is one of the
quietest dryers ever at only 70dB.
Took 30 secs to dry hands
Advances
• Drying time improved with more powerful
fans.
Uneconomical
Advances
• The set drying period of 30 seconds
meant that the hand dryer was often left
running after use. World introduced a
hand dryer with a hand-sensor and
automatic turn on/off.
Modern hand dryers are:
• Quick to dry
• Quieter
• Cost-Efficient
As hand dryers have become a lot more
usable, the technology is finally fulfilling the
promise of George Clemens original design.’
