The document provides background information on the Hindu festival of Holi. It discusses how Holi originated from the story of Holika, who was burnt to death while attempting to kill Prahlad, a devotee of Vishnu. Holi is celebrated in memory of this story and the burning of Holika, known as Holika Dahan. The festival is most prominently celebrated in areas connected to the deity Krishna, and mythology also links Holi to the death of the demon Pootana, who tried to kill infant Krishna.

Holika was a good person and it was the clothes that she wore that
gave her the power and knowing that what was happening was
wrong, she gave them to Prahlad and hence died herself.

was asked to sit in the fire with Prahlad she put on the shawl and
sat Prahlad down in her lap. When the fire was lit Prahlad began
