The French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in the late 1790s, caused by long-term factors like unfair taxation, deficit spending, and the influence of the Enlightenment. King Louis XVI called a meeting of the three estates - clergy, nobles, and commoners - to address France's financial problems, but it exacerbated tensions. Marie Antoinette, the unpopular Austrian-born queen, was executed in 1793. The Revolution abolished feudalism, ended the French monarchy, and established the bourgeoisie as the new dominant class. It also inspired other revolutions and spread French culture widely.

With her husband king Louis XVI she ruled France starting in 1744 • 3. Marie was Austrian and very unpopular with the people of France • 4. Her departure (death) was on October 16th in 1793 at the age of 37.
