Google makes over 500 updates to its search algorithm each year, or about 1.5 updates per day, to improve search results for users. Major updates like Penguin target low-quality sites using keyword stuffing or link schemes, while Panda focuses on sites with little useful content. The Knowledge Graph and exact match domain updates aim to surface more relevant information and reduce spam. Search results now include more ads, local listings, images, videos and highly viewed YouTube videos to provide users with more of what they want.
