The Kingdom of Kush had its religious center at Napata, which was built around the large mountain of Jebel-Barkal reaching 350 feet high. At the top of this mountain was a protruding rock formation that the Kushites believed represented the massive head of the falcon-headed god Horus, making Jebel-Barkal an important religious site.
