This document discusses Stephen Krashen's theories of second language acquisition. It outlines his five main hypotheses: 1) The Acquisition-Learning Hypothesis which distinguishes natural acquisition from conscious learning, 2) The Monitor Hypothesis which describes the role of monitoring in language production, 3) The Natural Order Hypothesis which states that the rules of a language are acquired in a predictable order, 4) The Input Hypothesis which explains that language is acquired by understanding input that is slightly beyond one's current level, and 5) The Affective Filter Hypothesis which proposes that factors like motivation, self-confidence and anxiety can affect a learner's ability to acquire language.

6. THE MONITOR HYPOTHESIS....
The monitor allows a language user
to alter the from of an utterance
either prior to production by
conciously applying learner rules or
after production via self correction.

7. THE NATURAL ORADER..
There is natural order in learning.
The Acquisition of grammatical
structures proceeds in a predictable
order
Errors are sign of naturalistic
devalopment process.
8. THE INPUT HYPOTHESIS...
Explains the relationship between
what is the learners input and
language Acquisition.
Involves four main issues
It relates to Acquisition not
Learning
People acquire language best by
understanding input.
9. THE EFFECTIVE LEARNING HYPOTHESIS.....
The learners emotional state can act as a filter that impedes or blocks input.
Emotional state+ attitude=effective language Acquisitio

2. Self confidence
3. Anxiety.
