Innovation Academy as head of school. Alongside her work at the Norcross,
Georgia-based school, Laurie Kimbrel serves as a mentor for Destiny¡¯s Daughters of
Promise.
In its efforts to help teen girls become confident leaders in their communities,
Destiny¡¯s Daughters of Promise (DDP) oversees several programs, including Next
Generation Leader (Nx Gen). Designed for girls in sixth through eighth grade, Nx
Gen is an after-school program that helps foster leadership and basic life skills.
Through the weekly program, youth participants learn about health and nutrition,
conflict resolution, and cultural awareness. The curriculum also helps girls build
their self-esteem and become effective communicators.
To attend Nx Gen sessions, qualified students must receive a recommendation for
the program from a teacher, principal, or school counselor. Each student¡¯s grades
and test scores are used to determine eligibility for those who agree to commit to
the program for at least one year. To learn more about Nx Gen and other DDP
programs, visit www.ddpgirls.com.
