Coursera, is proud to invite pre- and in-service teachers, teacher trainers, teacher supervisors,
and program administrators to the Shaping the Way We Teach English Massive Open Online
Course (MOOC) with the University of Oregon. This MOOC will be offered in two sessions

2. This is a 10-week course broken into two distinct, independent 5-week modules. It
explores important aspects of teaching English as a second or foreign language.
The course focuses on authenticity, collaboration, critical thinking, assessment, and
learner differences.
The goal of this course is to help participants improve their teaching methods and
outcomes.
By the end of this course, participants should be able to explain how the various materials
and approaches presented will lead to better language learning; to choose appropriate
materials and apply varied classroom activities to improve their students’ study of English; to
create a lesson plan that incorporates topics from the online course; and to better evaluate
both their own and other teachers’ practices.

For Whom:
This is a university level introduction to English Teaching Methodology course for non-
native English language speakers.
Participants should have an upper intermediate or advanced level of English so as to be
able to follow lectures and readings in English without support.
