Katurian, a writer of children's stories, is interrogated by police about a series of child murders that mirror killings in his stories. The setting takes place in an unspecified English town. During the interrogation, it is revealed that Katurian's brother Michal, who is imprisoned with him, committed the actual murders. In the end, both brothers face execution for their imagined and real crimes against children.

The setting takes place in England. Although
this is not quite clear from the way they speak
you can tell it is some sort of an English
Town. Some words they say are, cos or
mum. Also, the time period is not that clear
as well so I assume that it has to be around
this time because when Katurian is to be
executed they use a gun unlike in the olden
times where they would of hung him. The

room and in the jail cell. Act 1 is the interview
room, Act 2 is the jail cell, and Act 3 is the

The main plot twist happens half way
through the book. What happens is
Katurian is thrown into a jail cell with
his brother Michal and finds out that
Michal is the one who killed the three
children just like Katurian kills the
children in this story.
