 Salvation Army began in 1865 by
William Booth (London minister)
 Gave up pulpit to take message to
streets for poor, homeless, etc.
 Original aim was to est. churches,
but realized poor felt
uncomfortable
 Booth decided to found a church
for them  The Salvation Army

 1887, the first Salvation Army Officers arrived in Mobile preaching at the
corner of Conception and St. Francis St.
 1889, an official Salvation Army Corps (church) opened in Port City
 Persons who sought the ministry come with issues of substance abuse, legal
problems, relational conflicts, homelessness, unemployment, & need for
spiritual awakening and restoration
 For more than 125 yrs, The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama has opened
its doors and offered hope to the poor, homeless, drug & alcohol
dependency

 Tools chosen by this organization because Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest,
are popular sites that are used by a wide variety of age groups.
 These new tools replaced passing out flyers and stapling flyers on the street
lights and hanging them up inside public places
 New media tools been very effective in fulfilling the mission of organization
by reaching out to more people, more volunteer services, and being able to
broadcast the type of work that they do.
 Been effective in receiving feedback by having their contact information
available on the website.
