The song teaches 4th grade science students about the scientific method through a 6 verse song sung to the tune of "Red River Valley". It outlines the key steps of the scientific method which are: having a purpose or question, doing background research to form a hypothesis, writing out experiment steps, taking notes on what happens during the experiment, analyzing the results or data, and reporting conclusions. It also defines independent and dependent variables, with the independent being what is changed and the dependent being what depends on the changes made.

Verse 1 From this school someday you¡®ll be leaving, And there is still so much to do. But if you listen and learn in your classes I will teach some science to you.
Verse 2 First I want to talk about a method There is so much I want to tell you For experiments take a lot of time And there is much to remember and do
Verse 3 First you need a purpose or question This is so that you know what to do Next you research the information So you know what people will ask you
Verse 4 Third you make an educated guess This is called the hypothesis You say what you think will happen And then figure out how to test.
Verse 5 Now you write down the steps you are taking You want to know what to do Then you write down all that happens Even if something turns blue
Verse 6 Now you get to look at the data You need to say what happened You have to use all your knowledge And report on all that happened.
Variables Variables- things that change Independent Variables: I CHANGE Dependent Variables: DEPEND on what happened.
