• The one continuous shot that is used in the opening scene creates suspense because it is zooming in, and it is unclear as to what it will end. • However right at the beginning the shot is zooming out of an unknown event, leaving the viewer wondering about what could have happened and will they find out later on in the film. • There is also a use of a mirror that changes the point of view. • The use of an establishing shot shows the audience were the scene will be set, in this case it is in the middle of a forest, this crates tension for the viewer because there are many existing events and stories linked to forest that don’t always end so well.
• They used very simple fonts to keep the focus on the scene that was moving behind. • The title fades in in the colourer white then quickly changes to red this implies blood that make the viewer question weather there will be blood shed in the film. • However they did use colour to make the writing stand out and noticeable. • The use of an overlap dissolve links the two shots together, but also it dose not give anything away, it lets the audience know that the two shots are joined but not how or why.
• The lighting is very bright in comparison to the mysterious house in the middle on nowhere. • The small window suggests a scenes of intrusion, because are supposed to look out of widows not enter through them. The small hidden away widow also implies trespassing which reiterates the theme of suspense. • It is a interior is very cosy looking and the fact that the desk is cluttered tells the audience that someone lives there. • The fact that there is no body there and that there is unfinished work and a drink on the desk makes the audience question about where the person is, whether they are alive or dead. • The use of a mirror also makes the viewer think of what could happen next. Mirror’s are usually are used in films as a metaphor, the two half's of one person, and the fact that it is zooming into a mirror and then it goes so far in that the mirror is no longer there. It then goes on to zooming in on a scruffy looking man facing the other way which makes the audience think about what he will look like or if he is still alive or dead.
