A shepherd had 17 sheep. To divide the sheep evenly among his sons or perform other calculations, the shepherd would end up with decimal amounts of sheep which is impossible. To solve this, the shepherd would buy another sheep, allowing him to divide the flock into whole numbers without remainder. In the end, counting all the sons' sheep together, the total would still be the original 17 sheep the shepherd began with.
5. Conclusions:
If you do the operations with 17 sheep, you
will always arrive to a decimal number and
you cant approximate. So, mentally youve to
buy another sheep to be able to do the
calculations with any decimal error. Finally
you add the number of sheep that have all the
sons of the shepherd and the result will be 17
sheep.
