Subhash Ghai was born in Nagpur, India to a dentist father. He studied commerce in Rohtak, Haryana and then graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. In the 1970s, he began acting in films but found his talent was in storytelling. His directorial debut film "Kalicharan" in 1975 was a big hit. Ghai has won multiple National Awards for films that tackle social issues and helped professionalize the Indian film industry. He is the founder and chairman of Mukta Arts Limited, a successful film production company.

In 1970 he married a Maharashtrian girl from pune known as
Rehana now as Mrs Mukta Ghai
He began acting in films like Umang and Aradhna but soon
he rediscoverd his talent as story teller
In 1974 he got his first directorial break on his own script
KALICHARAN (1975) which proved to be a big hit of its
time
4. Achievements
In the year 2006, he was awarded NATIONAL AWARD for
producing a movie on social issues named IQBAL.
He also won a national award for his mvoe Hero of 1983
Subhash Ghai was the first producer who became
instrumental in bringing in Film Insurance to Indian Film
Industry
In the year 2000, MUKTA ARTS LIMITED became first Hindi
Film Production Company to go for public investment
For the first time an Indian film TAAL featured in the
Hollywood Top Twenty for many weeks
5. Work
Subhash Ghai as the Chairman and the Managing Director of
MUKTA ARTS LTD. has set up many plans to institutionalize
the Indian entertainment industry
As a filmmaker, he introduced and reintroduced many fresh
talents and groomed them into stardom such as Jackie
Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chaudhary,
Anurag Sinha etc.
He is also a great teacher in the arts and sciences of
filmmaking
