The document discusses fire safety and recommends the STOP, DROP and ROLL method. It explains that if clothing catches fire, one should stop, drop to the ground, and roll to smother the flames rather than running or shaking the burning clothes, which fuels the fire. The STOP, DROP and ROLL Campaign
1. The STOP, DROP and ROLL Campaign
Friends, after seen the suffering and loss caused by fire in our country, I think it’s time Kenyans are sensitized about fire and how to deal with it.
Lesson One. If your clothing catches fire, STOP, DROP, and ROLL to put out the flames. Don¹t run, stand, or shake the part of your clothing that is on fire. This only fuels the fire with more oxygen and worsens the situation. Instead, stop and drop to the floor or ground. Then roll or rock back and forth to smother the flames. Rolling helps reduce the fire’s oxygen supply.
I believe this knowledge will come in handy if one is caught in a Sinai/Sachangwan like disaster. Please pass this message on. Preach it to all.
Regards,
Maina Kiruri
20th September 2011
