The Tech Coach Role
What is a tech coach?
Tech Coaches are students who are trained to offer support and guidance to their peers on
the use of technology for learning.
What does the role involve?
Each semester you will work with a tutor to plan three technology enhanced lectures or
workshops. You will then be involved in facilitating these sessions. You will receive plenty of
advice and guidance.
You may also choose to support your peers by posting tips or running live chats using social
media.
You will be a role model for using technology appropriately and in an engaging manner in
order to enhance learning.
What sort of technology will I need to understand?
We will be using social media tools including: Facebook, Periscope, Snapchat and Twitter.
We will be using learning software including, amongst others: Kahoot, Socrative, PowToon,
GoogleDocs and Quizlet
You don’t need to know these tools inside out. As long as you have a keen interest in social
media and technology.
What’s in it for me?
You will be involved in the content and delivery of the course you are studying. You will
interact with many of your peers. You will develop your leadership and coaching skills. You
will receive a reference letter and detailed testimonial from your tutor outlining your
contribution. You will be able to add the role to your CV and talk about it in job interviews.
How much of my time will be needed?
You will need to spend a minimum of 6 hours per semester on your tech coach role in order
to receive your reference letter and testimonial at the end of the year.
