THE THEME FEAR
IN BREADWINNER
By:
Rachel Ralte
&
Rachel Raaga
INTRODUCTION
The main theme of this book is to NEVER GIVE
UP, and FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS no matter
how many obstacles stand in the way.
Deborah Ellis definitely made Parvana a strong
character who bravely faced the many challenges
that stood in her way.
She charged straight at them without fear. When
Deborah went to Afghanistan and Pakistan, we are
sure she thought about how strong those women
were who overcame such harsh Taliban rules .
INTRODUCTION
Those strong women probably inspired her to write
The Breadwinner. That is why the theme of the
book is to never give up no matter how hard it gets.
The author Deborah Ellis has explored the theme
Fear in the book Breadwinner by involving a lot of
characters in different situations.
EXAMPLES FROM THE BOOK
Parvana was really afraid of the Taliban at first, but
later after she disguised herself into a boy she got
used to the Taliban, after which she was no longer
scared of them.
Homa was really scared of the Taliban since they
killed her parents and brother, thus she left Mazar
and kept running away until she finally reached a
bombed building in Kabul, she took refuge there
and that was where Parvana found her.
There are many other instances in this book
regarding fear
