This lesson plan is for teaching 8-10 year olds about items found in the game Minecraft. Students will identify how many of each item are pictured in a handout, filling in a table with the correct form of "is/are". They will practice using singular and plural verbs by holding up objects and saying sentences. The lesson concludes by having students write their own sentences describing a Minecraft collage.

Someone in your class will be more than ready to teach you. If not, theres Google.) 2 Hand out the handouts (p. 3-4). Copy the table on the whiteboard. Ask them how many of each of the Minecraft items in the list there are in the pictures. The numbers are to be written in the How many? column of the table. (If you can afford it, ask them to colour the items.) (This is to check if they can recall them and the -s.) 4 Focus on the is/are part. Hold up one finger, say finger. Hold up three fingers to present fingerS. Do this a couple of times and elicit finger vs. fingerS. Hold up one marker, say There IS a marker. Hold up two markers, say There ARE two markers. Drill this a bit too. 5 Fill in the IS/ARE part of the table together. Conclude that There ISNT an ederdragon. 6 Erase any random row of the table. Ask your group to reconstruct it. Do 2-3 of them as a group, let them do the rest (writing sentences) individually or in pairs. Check their sentences. Follow up: Write sentences about the collage (p. 5).
